Donate to UPAVIM

We gratefully accept donations and are extremely appreciative of any contributions to our programs. UPAVIM has received support from numerous churches, individuals, and foundations since the cooperative began in 1988. All donations are tax-deductible in the U.S.A.

You may specify the program you wish to support or UPAVIM's general fund. UPAVIM's greatest need right now are contributions for the construction projects. We are in the process of expanding our building to provide more space for the school and crafts production, as well as other income generating projects and community service programs. The third floor began construction in August 2008. The fourth floor will begin construction as soon as funds are available. This 4th floor will house grades 4, 5 and 6 of our alternative elementary school. This pressing need is due to the children being extremely overcrowded. It has become impossible for our teachers to use their alternative education methods which is what makes our school unique for Gautemala and extremely successful.

Despite this pressing need, UPAVIM still appreciates donations for our scholarship programs from individuals, and we thank the many friends and former volunteers who continue to give generously to support the two scholarship funds:

  • Becas - a scholarship pays for one child's inscription and required materials for one year of primary or junior high school. Junior high recipients are required to do volunteer work and all recipients are required to pass their classes for the year to receive the scholarship the following year. The scholarship costs US$35 and UPAVIM has awarded 437 for the 2008 school year.

  • Becas de Carreras - this scholarship pays for 3 years of professional high school education for a bright teenager who would not be able to afford the costs of the school, books, and the uniform. All recipients do community service and many have formed the Group UNE - Una Nueva Esperanza (A New Hope). This scholarship costs from US$900 to US$1400 each year and UPAVIM has awarded 17 scholarships to deserving young men and women.

These scholarship programs depend entirely on international support. Please write "Becas" or "Becas de Carrera" on your check if you wish to support one of these programs.

If you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation in the USA to any of UPAVIM's programs, please make a check made payable to:UCDF (UPAVIM Community Development Foundation) , a U.S. based501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

You can specify on your check if you would like it to go to a certain program or "As Needed".
