Laboratory,
Pharmacy and Medical Clinic (1991-present)
This program is open 5 mornings a week. The personnel consists of
a doctor, who comes from outside the community, a nurse, a pharmacy
assistant, a secretary, and a lab technician, who also comes from
outside the community. The consultation with the doctor costs Q
13.00 (US$1.75). Some medicines are donated to us and others we
buy from Proam, a government pharmacy, but we always try to sell
the medicines at the lowest price possible so they will be affordable
for the community.
The medical clinic coordinates its activities with the Children's
Center and the Healthy Babies program. If a child is severely malnourished
or dehydrated, he/she is referred to the Children's Center where
he/she is taken cafe of and given follow-up treatment for as long
as is necessary.
