Tutoring Center (1992-present)

The tutoring center is currently in the basement of the Annex. When construction is completed, it will be on the second floor.

Jayson is one special young boy whose only educational activities are in the tutoring center, since his parents do not have enough money to send him and his 7 brothers and sisters to school.

UPAVIM also maintains a tutoring center with international volunteers working as teachers. It is open 6 days a week to all of the children in the community with a special focus on students with scholarships and children of the community who do not attend school. In the tutoring center, the children receive help with their homework, do research and read. The older scholarship students also work as volunteers in the center to fulfill the requirements of their scholarship.

The Current Needs:

  • This program depends 100% on donations and we need to cover the cost of inscriptions for year 2003.

  • Volunteers to work in the tutoring center. This is the only UPAVIM program that depends on international volunteers.

  • Books for children and teenagers, stories, histories, and books for reference and research.

  • General educational materiales, Spanish preferred: maps, science activities, art supplies.

  • Materials for teaching English, to children and adults.
